Mr. Gadkari made the announcement during an aerial inspection of the ongoing work on the highway. He said that the project has been delayed due to land acquisition issues, but all hurdles have now been cleared.
The widening of the highway will involve the construction of 11 new bypasses and the strengthening of existing bridges. The project is being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of Rs. 10,000 crore. The honorable minister said that the improved road connectivity will boost tourism in Goa and create jobs in the region. He also said that the project will help to reduce traffic congestion and accidents on the Mumbai-Goa highway.
