The Goa government formed a one-man commission, headed by retired high court judge V K Jadhav, to investigate land grabbing cases in August 2022. Mr. Jadhav officially began his investigation in January 2023. Yesterday, the commission submitted its report in November 2023 to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who has directed officials to review the report and take action.
The commission found that there are many cases of land grabbing in Goa, particularly in the Bardez taluka. The commission also found that there are loopholes in the existing legal framework that allow people to grab land illegally.
The commission has recommended that the government should take steps to plug these loopholes and make it more difficult for people to grab land illegally. The government is expected to take action on the commission’s recommendations in the coming months.
However, victims of land grabbing are still seeking answers as to how and when their properties will be returned to them.
