Pernem is suddenly witnessing a flurry of development projects due to the construction of the Manohar International Airport (MIA). The airport is expected to draw about Rs 2,700 crore of investments from builders and hoteliers until 2030, and these investments will be directed towards the Mopa region in the Goa's extreme north, where the new airport is based.
The Rs 2,300 crore worth mega projects that will be developed along with the MIA will include convention centres, hotels, casinos, retail, and much more. The Request for Proposal (RFP) has already been floated for these mega projects.
The impact of the spurt of investments has already been felt in Goa as far as tourism is concerned. The number of tourists visiting Pernem has increased significantly in recent months, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
The development of the MIA and the associated mega projects is a major boost for Pernem, and it is expected to transform the taluka into a major tourism and economic hub in Goa.
