The Goa Foundation, a non-profit organization working for the environment and sustainable development, has opened a new Citizens' Support Hub in Panaji. The hub, located at the Comtech Services Business Centre on MG Road, will provide a space for citizens to meet, collaborate, and work on environmental and social justice issues.
The hub is equipped with office space, computers, and other resources that will be available to the public free of charge. The foundation will also offer training and support to help citizens get involved in environmental activism and advocacy.
The opening of the Citizens' Support Hub is part of the Goa Foundation's ongoing efforts to empower citizens to take action for a sustainable future. The foundation hopes that the hub will provide a space for people from all walks of life to come together and work towards a better future for Goa.
Inauguration Ceremony
The Citizens' Support Hub was inaugurated on June 5, 2023, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The ceremony was attended by Kamlakar D. Sadhale, eminent architect, environmentalist, and Founder of Nirmal Vishwa.
In his speech, Sadhale spoke about the importance of citizen activism in protecting the environment. He said that the Citizens' Support Hub would provide a platform for citizens to come together and work towards a sustainable future for Goa.
First Public Engagement
The first public engagement at the new Citizens' Support Hub was a meet-the-press organized by Goa's civil society organizations. The event was held on June 6, 2023, to announce the organizations' stand on the recent zoning changes made to the Regional Plan 2021.
The organizations expressed their concern that the zoning changes would lead to further development and destruction of Goa's natural environment. They called on the government to reconsider the zoning changes and to protect Goa's environment for future generations.
